Shackle padlock with screw key

 

Central Europe, second half of 17th century

 

Malleable iron. Square padlock housing reinforced with relief ribbing along the sides. The arched shackle is hinged to the housing and stamped with a monogram at the top bend (probably that of the producer). The key has a solid corkscrew shank and banded collar; the bow consists of curling loops.
